Privacy Policy

442 Goals Game ("the game") is a football trivia game built to ask as little of you as possible. There is no account, no email address, no password and no advertising. This policy covers the game on the web (play.442goals.com), the iPhone app, and this website (442goals.com). Questions, or a display name to report? Email [email protected].

The short version. The game makes up a random id on your device, asks you for a display name, and stores your scores against that id so the leaderboards work. That is the complete list. You can delete all of it with one button in the game.

What we store

When you play a game, the game sends and our server stores:

We do not store your email address, phone number, contacts, location, photos, device identifiers or payment details, because the game never asks for them. Server logs are kept only briefly for abuse prevention and debugging; a per-IP rate limit protects the game-creation endpoint, and that counter expires on its own.

What stays on your device

Your settings, your current round, your local game history and your player id are stored on your device (in the browser's local storage on the web, or in app storage on iPhone). They never leave it except as described above. Deleting the app, or clearing site data in your browser, removes them. Note that clearing your player id also disconnects you from your scores on the boards; use Delete my data first if you want them gone from the server too.

Leaderboards are public

The global leaderboard is visible to anyone, in the game and on this website's leaderboards page, and they can be read from our public API. Each row shows a display name, a score, a goals total, a squad tier and an achievement count. Your player id is never shown to other players.

Analytics

The game may include PostHog product analytics so we can see which screens are used and where rounds are abandoned. When it is switched on, it records events such as "round started" and "round finished" together with basic device information (platform, app version, screen size) and a random analytics identifier that is separate from your player id. It does not use cookies for tracking, it does not record what you type, and it is not used for advertising or to build a profile of you. It may be switched off entirely in some builds. This website itself sets no cookies.

Advertising

There is no advertising in the game and no advertising SDK is included. The iPhone app does not show the App Tracking Transparency prompt because it does not track you.

Deleting your data

Open the game's settings and tap Delete my data. The game calls our server, which removes your display name and every score and game record tied to your player id from the daily and all-time boards, immediately and permanently, and then clears the local copy. You can also email [email protected] with your display name and we will remove your entries for you. Because we hold no contact details, we may ask you to confirm from inside the game that the id is yours.

Where data is kept

Leaderboard data is hosted on Cloudflare infrastructure. Analytics data, when enabled, is processed by PostHog under its own privacy policy. We do not sell data and we do not share it with anyone except these service providers, or where the law requires it.

Children

The game is a casual trivia game for a general audience. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age, beyond the display name they choose to enter. If you believe a child has entered something that identifies them, email us and we will remove it.

Not affiliated

442 Goals Game is an independent fan-made game. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any league, club, publication or statistics provider. Player names appear as text for identification only, and player statistics are compiled from publicly available sources. See the Terms of Use for the full disclaimer.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will also be noted in the game.
